California Poppy is a common wildflower, growing readily throughout Western North America. Unlike its infamous cousin, California Poppy does not contain any opioids and is non-addictive, therefore making it safer to use1. Nonetheless, this plant still has a strong effect on the nervous and musculoskeletal systems: easing anxiety, stress, restlessness, spasms, and tension in the body2. With its sedative properties, it is well-used in Western herbalism to treat insomnia and anxiety2. It is important to recognize that the effects of this plant are quite strong, and therefore it is advised to use it intermittently when needed instead of relying on it for daily use.
